Team USA beats Japan
Team USA made up of college all-stars beat a Japan team of college all-stars 4-1 Wednesday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. Japan manager Takasi Kodama said his team had never seen a pitcher like UCLA’s Gerrit Cole who went six innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven to pick up the win. Japan scored its only run in the fourth. Drew Maggi, an infielder from Arizona State led the offense as he tripled, doubled, walked twice and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Maggi was hitting .091 in Team USA’s first eight wins.

Crick named co-defensive player of the year
Nebraska’s Jared Crick and Texas A&M’s Von Miller were picked as Big 12 defensive co-players of the year, as chosen by media representatives. Miller and Crick tied for preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Crick was named to the preseason team on the defensive line. He was All-Big 12 First Team last year with 73 tackles and 9.5 sacks. Tight end Mike McNeil, kicker Alex Henery and defensive back Prince Amukamara also made the list.

NU picked to win the Big 12 North
Nebraska is the unanimous choice to repeat as the North division champion and Oklahoma has been picked to win the South in the 2010 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll, as voted on by members of the media who cover the Big 12 Conference. The Cornhuskers received all 26 first-place votes and totaled 156 points. Missouri placed second, followed by Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado and Iowa State. NU has been selected to win the North nine times and captured the division title in seven of those seasons. The Huskers have won outright or tied for the North crown on eight occasions and went on to become Big 12 champions in 1997 and 1999.
